One of my favourite places to go for steaks is Les Bouchons @ Ann Siang Road. It's a small restaurant located within a quaint conservation shophouse. The red walls, warm lighting and cosy arrangement of the tables (read: set very close to each other) reminds me of a typical bistro in Paris.

Man, I wish I had known about this place earlier (7 Ann Siang Road, 6423-0737). It was pretty cool: a little unpretentious French place specializing in steak frites, and not much more. All they had was a one-sided menu centered around a selection of meat dishes, most of which were uniformly priced at S$30.80 (US$22) complete with a salad and unlimited servings of fries.

It's been only open a month. Run by Sam Chin and C.W. Choong, it was off to a rocky start. The chef they imported from France, and indulged with a tony third-floor flat above the restaurant, left his key and a "sorry!" note on the floor of the restaurant early one morning before he exfiltrated back to France!

and as any patron of les bouchons would verify, their home-made fries are absolutely out of this world - just the right blend of savoury and sweet. what's even better is that they are served freeflow, if you can even finish the first giganormous serving, that is! i finished more of them than i ever did before. kate's plate was almost empty as well. it was truly satisfying.

This is definitely a carnivores-only place, with a very limited menu of Steak Frites and very little else (well, with the exception of a couple of Lamb dishes, and a couple of Fish dishes).

The place is decked out with French posters of assorted alcoholic drinks and cigarettes...typical French, basically. Les Bouchons is not very big, accomodating at most thirty or so people within the air-conditioned premises, but with space for more diners in the al fresco area outside.

Les Bouchons is still a friendlier, less intimidating place to done, and the free-flow fries (try saying that fast ten times) are extremely addictive. It’s a good place for a quick meat fix, but if we want to seriously satisfy a steak craving, I think The Steakhouse is the place to do it.

So...we trooped down to Les Bouchon, Ann Siang Road. It's a tiny restaurant. They do have a branch at Robertson Quay, but i have heard mixed reviews about the service, the Ann Siang Road outlet is the original restaurant.
